FPV demonstrated for town-planning site viewing
Live rural demonstrations and recorded footage gave a town-planning consultancy practical evidence for deciding where FPV could support site viewing and where another approach would be more appropriate. I built and demonstrated two aircraft so the client could assess the proposed workflow in practice.

- Live viewing demonstrated
- The client watched the flight feed on a tablet beside the pilot.
- Recorded footage supplied
- The client received footage afterwards for further review.
- Two aircraft demonstrated
- A compact whoop-style aircraft and a larger five-inch aircraft provided different options to assess.
Evidence for deciding whether to develop the workflow
The client wanted to establish whether FPV could provide useful rapid views of rural properties, boundaries and routes beyond those available from the ground.
The proposed workflow had two uses:
- A client watching live and requesting particular views.
- A pre-agreed route recorded for review afterwards.
The consultation needed to establish which aircraft, video system and camera arrangement would suit these uses—and where a different approach would be more appropriate.

Rural flights made the proposal tangible
I assembled and configured two FPV aircraft from individual components, then demonstrated both over rural land, including flights around the property and along fences and boundaries.
The client watched the video feed live on a tablet beside the pilot. The feed was also recorded and supplied afterwards, providing an example of how live viewing could be combined with footage retained for later review.
Different aircraft for different environments
The compact aircraft was considered for tighter spaces, while the larger five-inch aircraft was selected for faster outdoor coverage. Building both allowed their characteristics to be assessed against the proposed uses.
The technical evaluation covered:
- Aircraft, camera and component selection.
- Radio and video-link reliability.
- Live viewing, recording and safe flight operations.
- Component reuse, upgrades and possible future software customisation or automation.
A component register documented the equipment, its purpose and opportunities for reuse or replacement as requirements developed.
A clearer basis for the next decision
The work established where FPV could provide useful rapid visual coverage and where another aircraft, camera system or operating approach would be more suitable.
The client had practical demonstrations and recorded examples to inform whether, where and how to develop the workflow further.
The engagement covered consultation, system development and practical demonstration. It was not a land survey or the delivery of a finished operational surveying system.
